FALCONVIEW TOURIST BACKPACKERS ADVENTURE HOSTEL
2007 rate is $9usa plus tax, a night. This hostel is a mini Spanish hacienda with tile floors, self serve kitchen for guests and dormitory bunk beds in two rooms. There is a hammock room, scintillating conversation, friendly one year old dog called Lucky, run by an old couple. The old man is father of Tina over at Tina's Backpackers Hostel on the beach at Caye Caulker and she has now opened another Tina's Backpackers Adventure Hostel on the island of Roatan, one of the Bay Islands of Honduras.
The many adventures around Western Belize mountains are catered to by local Tour Operators who pickup guests and deliver them back at the front desk. There is enough expeditions and adventures to keep you going for 8 days without repeating any sort of thing. The absolute favorite is one full day seeing the Mayan ruins of Xununtanich and Cahel Pech. These cover 3000 years between them of the pre-classic and classic periods. Follow this the next day with a wild adventurous trip to ACTUN TUNICHIL MUCKNAL which is a cave system under the ground used by the ancient Maya for sacrifical ceremonies, wearing hard hat, ropes, headlamps and all that stuff and you will appreciate the Mayan history for the rest of your life.
Coming through by bus from Guatemala, you best take a taxi from the border crossing. It's about 12 miles and they charge only $10 for direct service to the front door. Coming from Belize and the offshore barrier reef cayes, a bus will take you out the Western Highway through the capital of Belmopan and you ask politely of the ticket collector to let you know when you arrive at the Eden High School turnoff and Hillview side street entrance at the Western Highway EXIT 66 1/2. We are a half mile up the hill and to the left, about 160 feet higher than the bus stop. It's a dirt road. The hostel is in the middle of a hundred houses on the slope of Green Parrot Valley. Very rural for being in the town of Santa Elena, quiet and nice.

If you miss the bus stop in Santa Elena Town you will end up in the next town of San Ignacio two miles a way. And taxi drivers will often rip you off to bring you back. The fare is about $5 to $7 Bz currency if it's right.

People in a group coming through the International Airport, we can pick you up and drive you here. It's about an hour and a half drive each way for us. We have a hostel shuttle which is a pickup with a wooden casita and benches on the back. Very folkloric! ( ha! ha! )
