Founder of the Maya Mountain Folk Music Festival

Thursday, December 30th, 2004 will be the FIRST EVER starting of the ANNUAL MAYA MOUNTAINS FOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL.

They say from small seeds great Mango Trees grow!  That is our hope for the Western Hill Country first ever MAYAN MOUNTAINS FOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL.

We expect this First Festival to be small!  Location will be up in Hillview, a suburb on the side of a small valley in the town of Santa Elena, in Western Belize.  The location of this first Folk Music Street Festival for local folk music of Belize will be held at the home of Ray Auxillou and his wife Silvia Pinzon, in a tent out back.  The Sponsor of the FIRST PRIZE is; Silvia Pinzon MLIS, a library Assistant Director over in South Florida, Hialeah Miami Dade Community College. NT>

Grandpa Ray Auxillou and wife Silvia Pinzon have great ambitions to create an artist community here in this quiet hillside suburb of a small country town in the hills overlooking the Belize Valley and the Macal River, which drains from the Belize Alps.

We are excited that you found our website!  We would like to share out enthusiasm and love of Belize and the Maya culture.  Silvia Pinzon has been coming to Belize for 12 years and is author of a Mayan Book.  The Early History of Belize.  This book covers a serious gap in previous colonial histories on the country of Belize.  Silvia Pinzon herself is an Anthropologist and Archeologist with her Bachelors Degree.  Previously she worked at Florida International University and still has a Mayan research project published and mounted on the University website.  But she also has a Masters in Library Information Science systems and works as the Assistant Director, running an extension campus library at MDC in South Florida, USA.  College holidays are the only time she can come to Belize.

The Belize Tourist Board a government entity, supports in principal the establishment of this Folk Music Festival, but declined to provide any assistance.
Many parts of rural Belize are neglected by Belizeans from the coastal plain big port, where all the political action takes place and treasury funds are mainly spent. Never mind, we are soliciting volunteers and have a few already.  We have a location and we have at least one prize donated so far.  It is October 29th at this writing in 2004 and it will be wonderful to look back and see the progress in ten years.  In the meantime, come and join us at our first ever venture into the Folk Music of Belize, of a small nation on the Caribbean coast of Central America.  Our goal is to have fun and share our love of folk music and small town country atmosphere.  We intend to have a good time and hope you do too on December 30th, 2004?
