Sacred Heart College is the process of developing a music program,beginning with its freshmen/first year class. The school has invested in various instruments, and currently has a volunteer music teacher who is teaching the recorder, voice and other instruments, including the piano. AND, YES, Ray --- the school will also invest in a marimb, and will be seeking someone to come in to teach it ... They also bought some Garifuna drums.

The CORN GOD is Yum Kaax! There are thirteen dieties
in the indigenous spiritual beliefs of Belize, in the
Upper World. There are nine deities in the Lower
World of the caves and underground.
The closest thing I have found to it from imported
spiritual beliefs was the HUGE BOOK 'URANTIA' which
kind of goes into all the dieties in the Christian old
time religions, BEFORE Emperorer Justinian in the
400's AD, re-wrote that Middle Eastern imported
religion now common in Belize.
Now the Conquistador religion Catholicism has
quieted down; due to invasion of Belize by evangelical
sects of that religion since about the 1970's, the
old Gods are coming back among the indigenous
spiritual beliefs. In the old days, you got
shackled and dragged by foot to Merida behind a mule
and then tortured and eventually torn apart by horses
in quartering in the public square. Many old people
in the Benque and Succotz area remember the tales of
Catholic atrocities from their great parents. Even up
until the 1960's the heavy hand of a Catholic parallel
government ran most things in Belize. Things much
better today on the spiritual front though nowadays.

Topic: news of the strike
The strike seems to be fizzling out. Tourist resorts report no problems with their guests. There was some problems last week with credit cards when industrial action sabotaged the telecommunications for 4 days. But otherwise nobody is bothering much with the local squabble about asking the Prime Minister to resign over the BTL communications company fiasco.

Hi!
This is my first attempt at a blog. So let's see what happens? I write a lot about Belize anyway and answer innumerable questions from people about it, that get my e-mail from somebody else. The reason is: I have lived in Belize for 45 years and currently maintain two homes. One in Hillview, Belize which is in the Maya Mountain foothills outside of San Ignacio town and my other home is in Miami Gardens, Florida. I'm retired! But I have four daughters, all with tourist businesses and rentals on the barrier reef island of Caye Caulker and between that and numerous Belize websites I have, and a listserve I'm on for eleven years, that we discuss Belize subjects continuously with over 100 registered members. We cover a lot of topics on Belize. If I don't know the answer, I can sure find out most of the time.
